M.E.A.T. Reaches Out to Hands Across The Water

M.E.A.T. Ministries join forces with Hands Across The Water to reach out to
less affluent people who are without enough books to sustain educational and intellectual growth.

Donations in the form of workbooks, craft books, dictionaries, atlas, educational study guides, grade level learning materials, art paper and other school supplies were sent by M.E.A.T. to Hands Across the Water (“HATW”) to aide in their literacy program.

Rev. Lenora Phelps, Founder of M.E.A.T. and Jane Miller Webber, Director of HATW sphere-headed the cause of seeing that M.E.A.T.’s book donations were put to good use.  M.E.A.T. proudly supports HATW’s effort to provide tools of literacy and education to needy schools and libraries in Nigeria, Ghana, India, the Philippines and other impoverished countries.

HATW distributes usable books to needy schools, libraries and other community-based nonprofit organizations. They meet a pressing concern in poor societies all over the world by distributing "rescued" surplus books to promote literacy and education where it is needed most. In many developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, English is the language of choice for education and literacy, so our donated books are a good fit.

The books were enthusiastically received by HATW who has a continued need for books of all kinds, both library and school (text) books on all subjects. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, please email us at meatministries@wt.net to arrange for pickup.  Future shipments will go to Kenya, Tanzania and needy areas within the USA.

A Cry Across the Waters…We Heard You!

M.E.A.T. Ministries has been blessed to come to the aide of many in several areas of the U.S. and South Africa.

A most recent plea came all the way from the distant region of Accra, Ghana. One brave new convert and believer from an impoverished area of western Africa emailed M.E.A.T. to share his testimony of his “eternal decision to follow Christ by accepting Jesus as his personal savior.” Armed with a great determination never to go back to the ways of the world, he stated how eager he is to learn more about how to live a godly life. We were truly moved by this young man’s email and wanted to do what we could to equip him for his Christian journey. At his request, we immediately shipped a Bible, study material on salvation, eternal life and bridging the gap between sin and God. So many have generously blessed M.E.A.T. over the past three years; we would be remiss if we did not sow into the growth of this enthusiastic young disciple. Therefore, we stuffed as many “goodies” as we could into a M.E.A.T. tote bag and off it went – halfway across the world to meet the need of a “cry across the waters...Yes, we heard you!

I’ve never been to Ghana, but I went online and blogged Accra. This is what one visitor had to say:  “I recently returned from Ghana and whilst I was fortunate enough to travel to different parts of the country, the first and last weeks were spent in and around Accra. It was such a wonderful place that I'm hoping to go back in a couple of months and also to build a house there.  Ghanaian people are exceptionally friendly and honest and despite the fact that many of them are desperately poor they will willingly share everything they have with you and will go out of their way to accommodate you.  . . . .Christianity is the primary religion in Ghana with Islam and indigenous religions also being popular. Unlike in many countries, there is no segregation between people of different religions and all live happily together and accept each other and their beliefs.  There is little distinction between people and it's impossible to tell simply by looking at someone which religion they belong to or even if they are a person of importance such as an elder or chief. The pastors are like anyone else you would meet and unless they tell you they're a pastor you wouldn't know. It is true to say that they are much respected and the respect system extends to far more then religion - the young always respect their elders, family members always respect parents and the head of the family, villagers always respect the village elders etc.  It doesn't mater where in the world you are from, you will be made very welcome in Ghana.”

What an awesome review – don’t you think? It only proves that in spite of poverty and deprivation, there is still a ray of hope in the Ghanaian people. That hope shines bright in the heart of our young Believer. M.E.A.T. is so grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to his growth!

Cornerstone - Caring for People

M.E.A.T. Ministries blesses yet another non-profit in the far corners of Belize, Central America.

“Yes we can” make a difference; and M.E.A.T. was honored to do so by contributing to another worthy cause.

We are proud to announce that M.E.A.T. has adopted the Cornerstone Foundation in Belize, Central America as our 2009 foreign mission project.

Cornerstone is a local organization founded in the town of San Ignacio, district of Cayo, Belize, Central America. It helps children in difficult home environments to learn life skills and sustainability advocating for children’s rights. They support women in violent situations to seek solutions and to empower them with skills that enable them to be able to achieve a degree of financial independence.

Cornerstone helps families afraid of the unknown learn how to care for a loved one living with and often dying from HIV/AIDS.  Since their programs and activities rely heavily on donated supplies, equipment, and human resources, M.E.A.T.  responded to the need.

Special gratitude is extended to Carmita, Rita, Vanessa, Nellie, and Elliot at Cornerstone for their enthusiasm and receptiveness to M.E.A.T.’s contribution.  Glory and honor to God for blessing M.E.A.T. to be a blessing to others!
